Very common cichlid of the shallow intermediate habitat (Ref. 46829, 52921). Has been caught at a depth of 25 m (Ref. 53528). Usually solitary and hovers well above the ground; prefers sand and digs large crater-shaped nests, even when there rocks offering good shelters nearby, a fact that shows that the choice of a nest site can be very revealing of a species ecology (Ref. 6770). Carnivorous, preys on fish (Ref. 6770, 53528). Also feeds on invertebrates (Ref. 46829). |
