Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 300 - 850 m
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: restricted to the North Pacific Central water mass.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 15-19; Vertebrae: 34-35. 11-13 AO photophores; 8.5-10 tooth patches on the lower limb of the second gill arch; 32-34 lateral line organs (Ref. 36121). Pectoral fins completely lacking in juvenile, subadult, and adult stages, apparently lost at about time of postlarval transformation; pectoral fin rays present buried in the skin in small juveniles (Ref. 36121).
