Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Torinae
Max. size:  40 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 83445). Probably rare in the lake and more common in the tributaries (Ref. 36901).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Heavy bodied fish (Ref. 83445). Rare in Lake Tanganyika, more common in affluent rivers (Ref. 36901). Occurs near the shores of Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 4967).
