Diagnosis: Labeobarbus matris is distinguished from its congener Labeobarbus rhinoceros by the following characters: the number of total gill rakers is 19, vs. 12-13 in L. rhinoceros; 3.5 scales below the lateral line, vs. 4.5; and the length of the unsegmented dorsal spine is 18.8% of standard length, vs. 26.3-29.0% in L. rhinoceros (Ref. 108777).
Description: Dorsal fin with 4 unbranched rays and 9 branched rays; anal fin with 3 unbranched rays and 5 branched rays; pelvic fin with 2 unbranched rays and 8 branched rays; pectoral fin with 1 unbranched ray and 15 branched rays (Ref. 114536). Lateral line with 26 scales; 12 circumpeduncular scales (Ref. 114536).
Colouration: The colour is brown, darker on the dorsal side, pale on the ventral side; fins greybrown (Ref. 114536). |
