Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: mouth more or less straight or only slightly curved; barbels absent or present as vestigial nubs; last unbranched dorsal fin ray weakly ossified and flexible; 26-28 scales in lateral line (Ref. 53571, 81639). Pelvic fin insertion below middle of dorsal fin (Ref. 81639).
Description: body depth 27.3-34.9% SL; head length 22.5-28.9% SL; no papillae around mouth but usually with round tubercles on snout; D: IV,10-11; A: III,5; scale formula: 4.5/26-28/-; 2.5; 10-12; 3.5 scales from lateral line to anal fin origin (Ref. 81639). Eyes laterally placed, not visible from below; nostrils small, situated in front of upper part of the eye, about halfway between tip of snout and anterior eye border (Ref. 53571).
