Africa: Lower Guinea endemic, known from the Lebuzi River (Chiloango River basin) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 81639) and Angola (Ref. 120641). |
Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: mouth superior; 5.5 scales between lateral line and mid-ventral line; 3 scales between lateral line and origin of pelvic fin; last simple ray in dorsal fin 50-60% of HL (Ref. 81639).
Description: large species with rather elongated body; lips rather strongly developed on sides, lower lip largely interrupted medially; two pairs of barbels, anterior pair 0.75-1, posterior pair 1.25-1.33x eye diameter; scales longitudinally striated or convergently striated posteriorly; scale formula: 5.5-6.5/34-36/5.5/3/12; D: III-IV, 10; A: III, 5; lateral line complete; dorsal fin border notched, last simple ray ossified, measuring 0.5-0.6x HL (Ref. 81639).
Coloration: ground color brown dorsally, white ventrally; scales with dark margins; fins brown, and pectoral and pelvics fins with white margins (Ref. 81639). |
