Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: throughout Orinoco and Amazon basins; Brazil and possibly Bolivia and Colombia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in rocky areas of the river with moderate to high current (Ref. 57460). Feed on sponges (Ref. 57460). Distinct pairs breed on densely grown weedy places (Ref. 205).
