Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal soft rays: 19-21; Vertebrae: 34-34. Thisi species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following characters: autapomorphic presence of a well-defined, relatively broad oblique dark ventrolateral stripe on body, running approximately from end of pectoral fin rays to base of middle caudal-fin rays, and continuing straight onto the tip of the middle caudal-fin rays (vs. no well-defined longitudinal stripe, or dark lateral stripe never oblique); differs from I. nambiquara, I. parauapiranga by the absence of humeral blotch (vs. two in I. parauapiranga, one in I. nambiquara); differs from I. kerri by having 19-21 branched anal-fin rays (vs. 22-26) (Ref. 138318).
