Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 485 - 512 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: endemic to the Hawaiian Islands.
Diagnosis:  Hymenogadus tenuis possess a shorter barbel (about 50% of orbit diameter) and about 10 inner gill rakers on the lower limb of the first arch when compared with H. gracilis which has barbel length of 50-70% orbit diameter and 11-15 inner gill rakers on the lower limb of the first arch (Ref. 97189).
