Max. size:  13 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  North America: Missouri, Arkansas, Red, Brazos, and Colorado River drainages from Montana and North Dakota south to New Mexico and Texas, USA; Mississippi River from mouth of Missouri River to Tennessee, USA. Introduced in Pecos River in New Mexico, USA (Ref. 86798). First record from Canada dates back to 2003 (Ref. 125894).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs usually in shallow sandy runs and pools of creeks and small to large rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous, probably open substratum spawners like congeners (Ref. 205).
