Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-16; Anal spines: 1-2; Anal soft rays: 14-15; Vertebrae: 24-24. Preopercular serrae 27-44 (Ref. 9933). Description: Characterized by mainly white body color; vivid, gradually arching red stripe, narrows on posterior body, widens into large triangular marking on caudal fin; greatest depth of body 5.0-5.1 in SL (Ref. 90102). | |||
Biology: | Usually lives in very deep water adjacent to reef drop-offs (Ref. 48635); also on sandy and rubble areas (Ref. 9710). Builds large rubble mounts (Ref. 48635). Feeds on zooplankton. Solitary or in small groups (Ref 90102). Maximum depth reported taken from Ref. 128797. | |||
