Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Vertebrae: 39-40. Diagnosed from other members of the genus in possessing nine proximal pterygiophores (including the terminal piece) on dorsal fin. Differs further from Hemibrycon species from the upper and middle Cauca rivers by having 43-46 pored lateral-line scales (Ref. 83513).

Inhabits creeks with brown water and substrate of stone and sand. The creeks are characterized by having 18.3-20.3°C surface temperature, 7.6-9.7 mg/l dissolved oxygen and 104-127% saturation, pH 8, and 2-4 m width (Ref. 83513). |
