Max. size:  35.8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Taiwan.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 169-169. This species which is a member of the Gymnothorax prolatus group is distinguished by the following set of characters: tail 46.3% TL; head 11.4% TL; predorsal length 8.2% TL; body depth 3.5% TL; snout 17.8% HL; maxillary teeth are biserial anteriorly and uniserial posteriorly; vertebrae in predorsal 6, preanal 78, total 169; body uniformly dark brown with lips whitish (Ref. 129614).
Biology:  The collecting depth is unknown, but the specimen was caught as bycatch in a trawl of Sakura shrimp, Lucensosergia lucens (Ref. 129614).
