| Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-11. The genus Grammatonotus surugaensis differs from Callanthias in having 1 spine on the operculum, 13 branched caudal fin rays, and fewer scales in longitudinal series. Several caudal fin rays produced into filaments. Body orange-red; tip of spinous dorsal fin yellow. Attains 8 cm SL. | |||
