Max. size:  17.4 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine, amphidromous
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-10. Specimen described by Jenyns had 1 ray more in the anal fin than given by Valenciennes.
Biology:  Found in coastal seas.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 21 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
