South America: Rio Atrato basin, Colombia. |
Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 4-5; Anal soft rays: 43-49; Vertebrae: 38-38. In addition to the autapomorphic presence of a bony ridge on the lateral face of the second branchiostegal ray, this species can be separated from G. alatus in having more lateral line-scales (68-75, versus 58-59), more scale rows between lateral line and anal-fin origin (13-16, versus 9-12) and more scale rows around caudal peduncle(21-23, versus 19). It differs from G. maracaiboensis by its shorter pelvic fin (11.4-13.9% SL, versus 13.6-15.8) and the larger interorbital space (16.6-22.1% SL, versus 21.8-24.5). |
