Family:  Cyprinodontidae (Pupfishes), subfamily: Cyprinodontinae
Max. size:  4 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish, non-migratory
Distribution:  Central America: coastal habitats of Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico and Belize.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal soft rays: 8-10. In females, vertical bars become narrower and more defined with age; in males, bars become numerous and then break into reticulated pattern (Ref. 26938).
Biology:  6 cm max TL (Ref. 2060). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
