This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: combination of a cephalic sensory canal pore system with only SOT and paired PITO pores; 8/8 dorsal/anal fin-ray formula; thickened ends of one or more of ventralmost pectoral-fin rays suggestive of branching; absence of fifth pelvic-fin ray; red-orange body basic color with a golden-yellow head, pectoral-fin base, and caudal-fin base. | |||
