Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
Max. size:  21.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range 0 - 800 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Western Sahara to Namibia (not known from the Gulf of Guinea). Western Atlantic: USA south to Argentina including the Caribbean Sea. Also Indian and Pacific oceans.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 May 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
