Africa: Cuanza and Bengo basins in Angola (Ref. 11970), entire Congo River basin and Okavango, Zambezi, and Kafue systems (Ref. 52193). Present in Koki River, a Lake Tanganyika tributary (Ref. 36901). Also reported from the Gribingui, Lake Chad basin (Ref. 83569), but this needs confirmation. |
Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5. Description: robust species; enlarged scales forming a sheat at the base of the dorsal fin; serrated dorsal spine present (Ref. 75045).
Coloration: yellow or orange tinted fins; broad, heavy, black midlateral stripe present, extending through the operculum and to the tip of the snout (Ref. 75045). |
