Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-8. This species is distinguished by the followinf characters: a terminal mouth; dorsal fin with two unbranched and eight branched rays'; pelvic fine with one unbranched and six branched rays; no caudal-fin organ; differs from its congeners by having unmodified scales on the lower caudal-fin lobe, lack of enlarged opercle and subopercle, incomplete lateral line, hyaline adipose fin, anal-fin distal border straight or slightly convex in adult males, large tricuspid teeth on anterior region of the dentary, distal arrangements of the anal-fin bony hooks in adult males and middle caudal-fin rays lacking a large round blotch (Ref. 119400). |
