Distribution:  South America: upper and middle río Magdalena basin, Colombia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal soft rays: 6-6. Dasyloricaria paucisquama is distinguished by a single autapomorphy: the posterolateral border of the lateral ethmoid is slightly extended but does not contribute to ventral portion of the orbital rim. It also differs from its congeners by possessing four to six central abdominal plates on each row (vs. seven to 12 plates) and a pelvic fin never reaching to the origin of the anal fin (vs. pelvic fin always reaching to the origin of the anal-fin) (Ref. 118067). Description: Dorsal-fin rays i,6; anal-fin rays i,5; pectoral-fin rays i,6; pelvic-fin rays i,5 (Ref. 118067).
