Family:  Curimatidae (Toothless characins)
Max. size:  6.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin and coastal rivers of Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives mainly in swamps. Forms schools near the surface. Males appear rare, they represent less than 10% of captured specimens (Ref. 12225). Males are smaller than females (Ref. 27188).
