Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobionellinae
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  North America: North Carolina to southern Florida and Texas in the USA. South America: Venezuela and Brazil (Ref. 26938).
Diagnosis:  5 dark squarish blotches along mid-side. No bar below eye; no shoulder spot (Ref. 26938).
Biology:  Adults inhabit low-salinity waters of bays and estuaries (Ref. 7251) and often enter fresh water (Ref. 26938). Salinity ranges from 0.0 to 21.3 ppt (Ref. 97140).
