Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Cheilininae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 15 - 40 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Juveniles and females similar to several other species and identification depends on the presence of a male that has a long dorsal filament and red anal fin, latter may look black in natural light (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Occurs on open hard-bottom substrates with algae and sparse coral growth, usually in strong current zones. Juveniles and females in small groups, sometimes with several males of which largest is dominating (Ref. 48636).
