Ruby-headed fairy wrasse

Max. size:  6.51 cm SL (male/unsexed); 4.61 cm SL (female)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 8 - 20 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9; Vertebrae: 25-25. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following coloration and morphological characters: pored lateral line scales 21-28 (15-17 in the dorsoanterior series, 6-11 in the posterior peduncular series); head bright red, magenta washed; scales behind the pectoral fin purple slated, edged prominently in dark inky blue to indigo; dorsal two thirds of body ochre to yellow-brown (Ref. 126788).
Biology:  Occurs in rubble zones with sporadic coral cover at depths between 8-20 m (Ref. 126788).
