Chin-strap fairy wrasse

Max. size:  9.21 cm SL (male/unsexed); 5.64 cm SL (female)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 5 - 20 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9; Vertebrae: 25-25. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of coloration and morphological characters: pored lateral line scales 21-25 (16-17 in the dorsoanterior series, 5-8 in the posterior peduncular series); head bright yellow, bright orange posteriorly to predorsal region; opercle, base of dorsal, caudal, anal, and pectoral fins are inky blue to indigo (blue-black when preserved); upper two-thirds of body bright aquamarine to teal in life (Ref. 126788).
Biology:  Occurs in shallow exposed rubble at depths between 5-20 m (Ref. 126788).
