Family:  Pomacentridae (Damselfishes), subfamily: Pomacentrinae
Max. size:  6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 35 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Andaman Sea in the eastern Indian Ocean to Fiji, north to Palau, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef. Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 11-13. Description: Head and pelvic fin yellow, body and other fins mauve, dorsal fin middle spot black large (Ref. 90102). Identified by the yellow on head and ventral fins, combined with the large black spot at the base of the spinous part of the dorsal fin, usually over the four last spines (Ref. 48636). Body depth 2.2-2.3 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Adults inhabit coral-rich areas of seaward reef slopes and deep lagoons (Ref. 9710). Feed on zooplankton a short distance from the bottom. Usually seen solitary on mixed coral and rubble patches (Ref. 48636). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 54980; 113699).
