Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 214 - 219 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Mauritius.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: body depth 2.0-2.1 in SL; D XIV, 13-14; A II, 14 (rarely 13); pectoral-fin rays 20 (rarely 19); procurrent spiniform caudal-fin rays 2; tubed lateral-line scales 18-19; scales above lateral line to dorsal-fin origin 4; circumpeduncular scales 13-14; gill rakers 8-9 + 21-23, total gill rakers 29-32; maxilla ending at vertical at anterior margin of orbit; black caudal band tapering anteriorly (anterior edge v-shaped) the full length of the caudal peduncle; caudal fin yellow with black posterior margin; distal third of anal fin blackish; dorsal fin yellow; upper half of pectoral fin yellow (Ref. 137466).
