| Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal soft rays: 7-7. This species of the Chaunax abei-group with uniform pink body when fresh and with a mixture of broad-based and narrowbased spinules on ventral surface is distinguished by the following set of characters: pectoral-fin rays 13; head large, its head length 44.4% SL and width 20.5% SL; tail short (lail length 1 = 24.2% SL, 2 =16.0% SL and 3 =14.4% SL); rakers on second gill arch 9; lateral line neuromasts in pectoral series 12 or 13 and in lateral-line proper 33 (Ref. 117885). | |||
