Family:  Crenuchidae (South American darters), subfamily: Characidiinae
Max. size:  8.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: coastal basins from Ribeira de Iguape River basin, Uruguay; Uruguay River basin.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal soft rays: 20-20. It is distinguished from all other species of Characidium from southern Brazil, except C. sp. cf., C. zebra, in having 14 series of scales around the caudal peduncle (Ref. 27672).
Biology:  Usually found in creeks or small rivers with rocky bottom and clear, fast flowing water (Ref. 27672).
