Family:  Chaetodontidae (Butterflyfishes)
Max. size:  16 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 43 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Ryukyus, Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands and Taiwan to the Hawaiian, Marquesan, and Pitcairn islands, south to the Samoan and Austral Islands; Marianas and Marshalls in Micronesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-23; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-18
Biology:  Adults are found almost exclusively on exposed seaward reefs (Ref. 205). Benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). They feed mainly on polyps of Pocillopora. Solitary or in pairs. Oviparous (Ref. 205), monogamous (Ref. 52884). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).
