Family:  Chaetodontidae (Butterflyfishes)
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 10 - 40 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: India.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 14-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-18; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 16-18. Identified by the bright yellow color, black bar over head and eye-sides black peduncular spot (Ref. 48636). Snout length 2.7-3.1 in HL. Body depth 1.6-1.9 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Found in rock or coral reef habitats near the shore or on outer slopes. May be solitary but more usually seen in pairs or small groups (Ref. 90102, 48636). Feed mainly on coral polyps (Ref. 48636). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).
