Family:  Trichiuridae (Cutlassfishes), subfamily: Aphanopodinae
Max. size:  23 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 200 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Halmahera and Flores Sea in Indonesia; north of New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 34-35; Dorsal soft rays (total): 85-90; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 80-84; Vertebrae: 126-129. Body silvery, jaws and opercle blackish. The inside of the mouth and gill cavities black.
Biology:  Probably benthopelagic, juveniles mesopelagic from 200 to 800 m depth (Ref. 9688).
