Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 2980 - 4200 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: off Azores, Cape Verde to Nigeria. Western Atlantic: Caribbean Sea. Indian Ocean: Somalia to Tanzania. Also known from the Arabian Sea Ref. 26165).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 16-16
Biology:  Solitary. Bottom feeder. Feeds on benthopelagic mysids and copepods. Synchronously hermaphroditic. Fecundity per generation is ca 6,000 eggs (Ref. 6688).
