Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
Max. size:  12.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 100 - 3000 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: scattered records from Morocco to Mauritania, Cameroon to Gabon. Southwest Atlantic: off Brazil (27°S, 37°W). Also, Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal soft rays: 15-16. Body long and slender. Mouth large, gape straight (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Meso- and bathypelagic at 40-1500 m (Ref. 58302).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 May 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
