Appears to inhabit the more upstream parts of rivers where it occupies the upper part of the water column. Active at dusk, feeding mainly on insects and small crustaceans. First sexual maturity occurs at a length of 16 cm. Reproduction begins at the start of the rainy season. Fertilization is internal, the female being capable of keeping the sperm in the epithelium of its genital tract. Fecundity is approximately 15,000 eggs (Ref. 35381). |
