Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  6.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 55 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: southern Florida, USA and Bahamas, Caribbean, including Antilles (Ref. 26938) to northern South America.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits coral and rocky areas, often near drop-offs. Solitary or in groups in caves or holes (Ref. 9710). Often seen hovering in the spines of long-spined urchin.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 10 March 2010 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
