Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 50 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Florida Keys, USA and Bahamas to the Antilles (Ref. 26340) and Curaçao.
Diagnosis:  Light red with two posterior dark brown bars, the first linking rear base of second dorsal and anal fins, and the broader second posteriorly on caudal peduncle.
Biology:  Prefers coral and rocky areas with little sand. Looks very similar to Apogon planifrons which occurs in the same area.
