Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Malaysia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-10. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: a single backwardly oriented supraorbital spine; absence of nasal spine; lower margin of interopercle smooth; preorbital ridge smooth; transverse scale rows on cheek 2; predorsal scales 13 or 14; scale rows between anal-fin origin and lateral line 7 or 8 (modally 8); scale rows between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line 5. Body compressed, relatively deep, its height 44.6 to 51.2% of SL; caudal peduncle robust, its height 16.7 to 18.9% of SL; second dorsal-fin spine (DH2) longer than third dorsal-fin spine (DH3) (DH2/DH3 > 1); second anal-fin spine (AH2) shorter than third anal-fin spine (AH3) (AH2/AH3 < 1).
