Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Torinae
Max. size:  61 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 2,250.0 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 2801, 101145), including inflowing streams (Ref. 4967), and Lake Rukwa catchment (Ref. 101145).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  It can be found in inshore rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika, and rapid sections of rivers; one of the most common species in the rivers (Ref. 4967). It feeds on aufwuchs (Ref. 28666).
