Remarks Blacktail comber is a serranid fish that lives on rocky bottoms, from the shallow subtidal down to about 90 m depth. This species is a hermaphrodite, which in the Azores matures at about 250 mm total length and spawns from July to September (Lourinho, 1998). Maturation length corresponds to about 4 years of age (Costa, 1997).
