Remarks Frequency of occurrence: occasionally in sandy streams, occasionally on rocky streams, occasionally in standing deep water, common in shallow swamps (Ref. 37065). Prefers vegetated margins of rivers and oxbow lagoons or shallow lakes. Picks small invertebrates and epiphyton from stems of plants and roots. Known to make seasonal movements onto floodplains during rainy season (Ref. 13337).
