Remarks | 'kaekale' means spine. The name refers to the venomous spines in the dorsal, anal and pelvic fins of these fishes which can inflict very painful wounds. Commonly taken by traditional leaf sweep technique known as 'Kwarao' and hand spear at night on the reef flat where it sleeps. Stings from the spines of fish can be treated with the leaves of the Dirigi tree. |
