Remarks 'Chum' probably from Chinook (North American indigenous language) jargon, i.e., spots, writing (p. 240 in 11978); 'salmon' from Latin 'salmo, -onis' linked to 'salire', i.e., to jump and hence, the leaping fish (p. 454 in Ref. 11979). Also Ref. 276.
