Locality
Distribution Probably circumtropical; Chile, Gulf of California, Japan, Taiwan, Red Sea and Ivory Coast; possibly also in the central western Atlantic
Quote All characters described for Mobula tarapacana are found in mobulids sampled in the Gulf of California; including, lack of caudal spine, short tail, distinctive 'long-necked' appearance, with cephalic fins relatively short, and large sized. SIO 83-113 (male embryo) designated as the neotype to help nomenclatural stability.
